Who pays for psilocybin research, and who is allowed to make the drug.
The one is Market Research Future, which gives psilocybin no dollar value of its own and builds its estimate partly from prescriptions for esketamine, a different drug.
Usona Institute supplies 11 and sponsors four, on the 5 September 2026 read. A sponsor index cannot see either supplier, and no registry behind these trials published what any of them cost.
Making it lawfully takes four permissions. Two US states publish who holds them, and Canada’s list goes to those seeking access through its Special Access Program or for scientific research, a 2023 filing says.
Those are the totals filed by two supporting committees and one opposing committee. Massachusetts voters rejected Question 4 in 2024, and its money had a different shape.
Oregon’s August forecast for its psilocybin programme assumes no General Fund money, and all three of its scenarios, with or without the increase, end short. None of the authority’s budget documents says the programme will stop.
What the law allows, and where patients can and cannot get treatment.
Eleven states have enacted a measure deciding what their drug schedules do if the FDA approves a psilocybin medicine. No such medicine is approved, and none of them changed the law for generic psilocybin.
Executive Order 14401 set no deadline for the route it asked the FDA and the DEA to build for eligible patients, and nothing creating it has been published since April.
Through June 2025, prescribers reported 47 new patients, none in the first six months. Some may be counted twice, and the regulator has no public dashboard for them, as it does for medicinal cannabis.
In practice, the only way to psilocybin therapy in Italy is a place in one of two registered trials for treatment-resistant depression, where some participants receive placebo capsules. No patient has been publicly reported treated outside them.
These are practitioners’ requests: one can cover several patients, and one patient can need several. Patients cannot apply directly, and a yes does not oblige a manufacturer to supply.
What psilocybin is being studied for, and who supplies the drug.
Each registration is a statement of intent at filing and says nothing about whether psilocybin helps anyone. Newer trials name a wider spread of conditions, and depression grew alongside them.
In roughly 8% of registered psilocybin trials, the name on the drug isn’t the sponsor’s. No index built on sponsors can show that, and ours is one of them.
These are analyses, not register entries. Each one is derived from the record and shows the working, and each one states what would make it wrong. Where a piece and a record disagree, the record governs: it is the text of what the law says, and an analysis is an argument about what that text amounts to.
