1. What the law is

Key legislation

Dangerous Drugs Act (Ch. 228) as applied by the Dangerous Drugs (Application) Order, 2024: paragraph 2 applies Part IV of the Act to the drugs in the Schedule, which lists psilocybine; paragraph 3 revokes S.I. 77 of 1994.1

A single 2024 order did the work here. The Dangerous Drugs (Application) Order, 2024 applies Part IV of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Ch. 228) to the drugs in its Schedule, and psilocybine is on that Schedule. It revokes the statutory instrument of 1994 that came before it. Two limits are worth stating precisely: psilocine is absent from the Order, and the Order names the compound rather than the mushrooms or fungi that contain it.
